The true freshman from Huntsville High School (TX) played quarterback in high school but was recruited as an “athlete.” The Cowboy staff moved him to cornerback. But most importantly, he could return punts and/or kickoffs for the Cowboys this year. After all, he runs a 4.35 in the 40-yard-dash. That makes him quicker than Robert Allen on prom night.
Gundy in the Tulsa World:
“(Gilbert) is going to get an opportunity to make plays, just like we did Perrish Cox (as a freshman in 2006),” coach Mike Gundy said. “I would prefer to have a guy back there that can rip one off, and you may have to live with a mistake or two, than to have just a guy back there … who brings the ball back to the 20-or-25-yard line.”
So expect Gilbert to fair catch a few punts inside the 10. But also expect a few big returns. Mr. Haisten said Gilbert is the most exciting freshman since Dez Bryant.
Word is Miami Dolphin GM Jeff Ireland has pre-emptively asked the OSU athletic department if Gilbert’s mother has sex for money. Just to save time when Gilbert goes through the NFL interviews in a few years. More info is better than less.
