Word around the campfire is Griffin Communications, which owns KOTV in Tulsa and KWTV in Oklahoma City, is launching a big sports-themed element to their online coverage, hiring several new bodies to create exclusive online content. So we can see extended highlights of the Sand Springs-Sapulpa softball game.
You have to admire Griffin’s forethought. But they’re pouring an awful lot of resources to broadcast sports over the internet to a pair of markets where 15% of the homes still got their only television from rabbit ears. (see: World, Tulsa).
The site will be www.oksportsblitz.com. If you type that in now, it automatically links you to KWTV’s site.
So will Dean refuse to prepare scripts and video for the online portion of the news, as well? Or just the broadcast versions? Or will we still get extended on-air questions from him that make his one-on-one interviews twice as long as they have to be, eating up precious broadcast seconds? To be determined.
